Editing Questions

Have a look at our blog post on the different types of edits first. Then, fill in our form with as much detail as you can, and we’ll have a look and let you know.

You can use our quick quote calculator on the Editing page (or Home page). Once you use the calculator, you can fill in this form with your book details, and we’ll get back to you within 48hrs.

Yes, we love helping out new authors. We do ask that your book goes through a bit of self-edit before it lands in our lap (a basic proofread on your own, making sure no chapters or sections are missing, etc.). If you’re ever unsure, just fill in this form with all the details, and we can have a look via a sample.

Yes. So long as the book is in English, and the English Mastery requirements are met, we can help you out. Additional charges may be incurred depending on the extent of edits required. When in doubt, fill in our form and we can give you more details once we have a look at your first chapter.

Yes, absolutely. We edit in US English, UK English, Australian English, and Canadian English.

We want to help all authors, but we can only do so if authors also do some work on their end. What this means is we need the manuscript to be in legible form if you are submitting it for editing. A few things to consider:

  • If you use dictation, please make sure to review your draft after you completed it, to correct all the misheard words (let’s face it, dictation isn’t perfect).
  • Have you read the manuscript a few times, maybe had a friend read through it?
  • Do you have missing scenes or chapters?
  • Are you constantly shifting between present tense and past tense (or other tenses)?

These are just some basic guidelines, as it depends on the level of editing you are booking, as well. A book that comes to us for a developmental edit will not be in the same shape as one that comes to us for proofreading. If in doubt, fill in our form with all your book details and we’ll be in touch.

Yes. We are professionals, and each author gets a personalized editing agreement to review and sign. You can view a sample of an editing agreement here.

We book fairly fast, so we always recommend booking a placeholder to save your spot. When it comes to editing spots, especially, our slots are limited.

Now, you wait! In your contract, there is a turnaround time listed. Our editors will be working tirelessly on your book between the beginning date and the ending date, and you’ll receive the final file when the edit has been completed. You can always reach out to us if you have a pressing question.

We take the utmost care with your manuscript, and once the work is completed and final payment is received, we delete all original copies of the manuscript and retain only the edited file for 30 days (in case you lose it, or have questions), after which we delete everything.

Formatting Questions

You can use our quick quote calculator on the Formatting page (or any of the detailed formatting sub-pages like eBook formatting, etc.). Once you use the calculator, you can fill in this form with your book details, and we’ll get back to you within 48hrs.

Yes. We are professionals, and each author gets a personalized formatting agreement to review and sign. You can view a sample of a formatting agreement here

Yes. As soon as work begins and we have a working “draft” of the formatting, we will send you a screenshot/preview for your eBook first, as that is what we begin with. A follow-up preview of your paperback file will begin when work on that starts. You can read more about the formatting process here.

Now, you wait! In your contract, there is a turnaround time listed. Eldon or Sabrina will reach out to you with previews of your file anytime during that turnaround period, so just keep an eye on your email. You can always reach out to us if you have a pressing question.

Once work begins on the formatting, it’s hard to gauge what the final number of pages will be, given that typesetting can change the count (for more, or less). So we stay away from giving you an estimated count, because if we’re off by a few dozen pages, your cover designer would have to redo the spine of your book cover, and therefore you might incur additional charges from them.

Contact us (the contact details will be on your formatting agreement) and breathe—we can get it fixed! While we recommend a thorough proofread before any formatting begins, we also understand that things can be missed. Just let us know, and we’ll do our best to fix it.

Please note this does not apply to changing the font or the trim size of the book, as those are substantive changes that require additional turnaround and time invested on our end.

Other Questions

We work and reply to emails Monday to Friday, 8am-8pm EST.

We offer a variety of services at this time, but we do not publish the book for you. We can help with editing, formatting, coaching you through beginner’s resources if this is your first book, and showing you how to optimize your categories and keywords if you’re planning to be Amazon exclusive. But we cannot publish the book for you.

We offer coaching services with Alexa at the rate of $50USD per hour. You can fill in our form with as much detail as you can, and choose the “coaching” option among the services. Sabrina will reach out with an invoice and a link where you can book a spot that fits your schedule.
